Issued: 10th Jul 1950. Perf: 13x12½. Watermark Wz 1 and available on sheets (10x10). Designed by Kreische and issued to commemorate 250 years of the German Academy of Sciences, Berlin. The stamps feature famous scientists.

This stamp features Walther Hermann Nernst (25th Jun 1864 to 18th Nov 1941), a German chemist known for his work in thermodynamics, physical chemistry, electrochemistry, and solid state physics. His formulation of the Nernst heat theorem helped pave the way for the third law of thermodynamics, for which he won the 1920 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He is also known for developing the Nernst equation in 1887.
